I'm so amazed at how well this keeps time. I set it using the TV guide and now I know exactly when Bill O'Reilly comes on!! I can even count down the 2:30sec it takes to pop my popcorn without having to look at the ugly microwave clock!! THANK YOU!!

The reason I only gave it 3 stars is I used it to see how long it would take the paint to dry in my living room, 3hr.45min.64sec. The results could not be supported my the paint manufactures because of "humidity"..whatever

Practical and pretty, March 3, 2008

This is probably the best gift I ever received. At age 17, I wasn't too impressed: I wanted something more delicate, traditionally feminine for a watch. It grew on me over time. Other than replacing the crystal for $75 (my fault: I cracked it while rock climbing), my watch needed no maintenance for 20+ years. I wore it every day, while swimming, camping trips, nightclubs, workplace, often showering and sleeping! My long hair never got caught in the metal wristband, nor did it stick to my arm, a problem with many leather wristbands. By my standards, it kept good time, although I reset it at least once a month due to travel. I should've taken much better care of my watch, nevertheless, it took very good care of me.

I received so many compliments, and it seemed to match casual AND dress clothing. I loved the blue face. The watch had resale value too! 50% of what it was purchased for, even after all those years of use.

One word of caution: I've heard that Rolex watches should be bought from authorized dealers, otherwise the warranty may be voided. I always have good experiences with Amazon, but I'd suggest looking into this before making such an expensive purchase.

Is it "worth it?" Of course not! If you simply "must" have something like this, as I felt I did, I can't imagine a purchase that you'll be more happy with. As someone already stated, the Rolex Explorer is not about bling. It's not about flash and ostentation.
